What you’ll do
We have a number of maximum term openings (through to June 2027) for First Response Counsellors (full-time and part time) who will provide telephone and online counselling and use their skills to assess the unique needs of individuals seeking support as part of the national 1800RESPECT service. As a First Response Counsellor, you will help achieve sustained reduction in the prevalence and impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence. You will have the flexibility to work from home (attend office when required) and we will work with you on suitable shifts to complement your lifestyle (minimum of 19 hours per week). Shifts are negotiated across a 24/7 roster, based on the service requirements which is based around demand for support, your preferences, and the preferences of other team members. You will receive shift penalty rates based on the shifts occurring across the evening, overnight, weekend and public holidays.

The details 

  • $39.49 - $41.06 per hour execusive of superannuation (depending on experience)
  • Multiple First Response Counsellor positions (full-time and part-time, minimum 19 hours per week)
  • Located in Australia - Work from home

What you'll bring

  • A minimum three-year bachelor's qualification which meets the requirements of the Peak Body Registration.
  • Be eligible to register (or) hold current registration with one of the Professional Bodies at the required level: PACFA - Clinical, ACA - Lvl3 or above, Full - AASW or General Registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist.
  • At least two years full time counselling experience (Case Management not acceptable).
  • Demonstrated experience in brief, outcome-focused counselling (preferably telephone counselling) or equivalent experience in specialised domestic, family and sexual violence counselling, mental health services, crisis services, homelessness etc.
  • Demonstrated authentic, compassionate, empathetic responses in front line service delivery/counselling role. 
  • Experience working across telephone counselling/ intake/ assessment roles. 
  • Capacity to work and support self and team in a complex and often demanding work environment.

Additional requirements: 

  • Holder of a current working with children check/vulnerable people check relevant to your State, or proof of application prior to interview 
  • A private room/space which can be used for your home office set up 
  • Reliable internet connection 
  • Strong computer skills (experience with using systems, MS Word, excel, outlook and internet)
