ACCAPE future in doubt

16 April 2024

At the last Board meeting the future of the Australian College of Counselling and Psychotherapy Educators (ACCAPE) was discussed. Despite a proud history of leading the field in counselling and psychotherapy education, previously as the independent Society for Counselling and Psychotherapy Educators (SCAPE) there has been an extended period of inactivity which includes a lack of volunteers to lead the College.

PACFA acknowledges the role ACCAPE has played in the field of counselling education in Australia, and the dedicated expert efforts of previous leaders including, most recently, Roman Ilgauskas. We remain committed to supporting the professional development of counselling and psychotherapy educators and will continue to provide resources and information in this area.

PACFA will explore alternative pathways to best serve the needs of counselling educators in Australia and will keep members and registrants informed of any developments in this regard. Without new volunteer leadership, the college will be closed prior to commencement of the 2024/25 renewals.

If you are interested in leading or joining the ACCAPE Leadership Group, please email [email protected]

In the meantime, PACFA members seeking information or resources related to counselling education are encouraged to visit the National Heads of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (NHCPE) website or to contact the PACFA office for more information.
