The modern scourge of burnout is explored in Natalie Salameh’s insightful article, ‘The adverse effects of burnout and compassion fatigue among mental health practitioners: Self-care strategies for prevention and mitigation’ in the December 2022 issue of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia (PACJA).

As the author points out, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a damaging effect on mental health practitioners, resulting in a range of biological, emotional and cognitive consequences. In the face of these challenges, the article emphasises the value of empirically validated self-care strategies, like exercise, and the need for interpersonal support networks and meditation.
