Griefline Support Volunteer

About Griefline

Griefline is a national not-for-profit supporting anyone over 18 years who is experiencing grief and facing any type of loss. Our mission is to normalise grief by having courageous conversations and supporting communities to grow from loss. We do this through a national helpline, online forums, bereavement counselling and support groups, grief literacy and eduction programs and research led support resources. Our specialised counselling programs include Policeline in Victoria (funded by SEMPHN) and Integrating Grief in NSW (funded by NSW Ministry of Health). Griefline’s telephone support services and online forums are staffed entirely by Griefline trained volunteers.


What you’ll do

As a support volunteer at Griefline, you will help to support community members experiencing grief and loneliness by undertaking the following tasks:

  • Complete at least one 4-hour shift a week for a 6-month period
  • Provide telephone support to help seekers using Griefline's framework
  • Support forum users by reading and responding to posts, and initiating conversations using Griefline's Volunpeer guidelines
  • Use Griefline specified systems, tools, processes and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy requirements
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision/debriefing and peer support sessions
  • Keep up to date with Griefline information, policies and procedures, and attend training and development sessions when provided

  • Volunteer role
  • Located in St Kilda; remote options available

 

What you'll bring

Prior to commencing the role at Griefline, all volunteers are required to have successfully completed the Griefline grief and loneliness training (at their own expense), submitted a Police Check clearance and signed the volunteer agreement. 
We are looking for people with the following skills, qualifications or experience:

  • Compassionate
  • Non-judgemental
  • Exceptional listener
  • Breadth of life experience
  • Ability to follow instructions and work within guidelines
  • Clear, warm speaking voice
  • Ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries

If choosing to undertake Griefline volunteering remotely, it is a requirement you have a stable internet connection, be a confident user of technology, and be able to work with new apps and systems quickly.
