Recognition of Prior Learning

12 February 2024

PACFA has an enduring commitment to registering and recognising the wide range of tertiary-qualified, highly-skilled counsellors and psychotherapists. This was the core focus of the organisation’s development of a draft Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework in 2023.

With the approaching introduction of National Standards, PACFA has become aware of the importance of aligning any RPL application pathway with professional competencies in counselling and psychotherapy. These competencies will be recognised as part of PACFA’s commitment to Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) and the National Alliance of Self-Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP).

This involves a range of governance requirements in relation to the development and implementation of these professional competencies, and PACFA has been in conversation with AHPA and NASRHP regarding the best course of action for this.

The establishment of professional competencies is a priority for the organisation and the profession more broadly in 2024.

Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA), of whom PACFA is an Ordinary Member, is the recognised national voice for allied health professions in Australia, representing and advocating for the role of allied health professionals. You can read more about Allied Health Professions Australia on their website.

PACFA is a qualifying member of the National Alliance of Self-Regulating Health Professions, a formal independent body providing a quality framework for self-regulating health professions.
