Interpersonal Psychotherapy for adolescents and adults:

An attachment-based intervention for depression and related disorders

On completion of this workshop participants will achieve The Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute’s Level A Certification - Basic Training in IPT.

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a brief, evidence-based intervention. More than 250 empirical studies support the effectiveness of IPT, for a variety of affective disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders and for a wide range of clients from children to the elderly.

IPT is recognized as evidence-based by Australia’s Medicare Better Access initiative, the American Psychiatric Association, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK and the International Cochrane Collaboration.

This workshop presents a brief overview of IPT, including the theory and evidence base. The main focus of the training is on the development of the skills required to implement an effective IPT intervention.

A range of learning methods is used including, didactic presentations, experiential exercises, demonstrations, small group activities, role-play & self-reflection.
