Australia's first national credentialing system for eating disorders

5 July 2022

The Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) and National Eating Disorder Collaboration (NEDC) have launched connect·ed – Australia’s first searchable, accessible, national directory of credentialed eating disorder clinicians.

connect·ed is the home of the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential, which recognises minimum standards for clinical practice and aims to support people with eating disorders find clinicians to help them.

Finding and connecting with a health professional who is trained in eating disorder management can be challenging, often impacting on the recovery journey of people living with an eating disorder. The credentialing system and website were developed with funding support from the Australian Government Department of Health and based on consultation with people with lived experience, their supports, mental health professionals and dietitians across public and private settings.

Credentialed treatment providers are recognisable with a digital badge. They maintain their profile on the connect·ed website, so that people seeking treatment can search with confidence based on location, appointment availability, appointment format (i.e. in person or telehealth) and interest areas.

Mental health professionals with training and experience in eating disorder management can apply for the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential and list on the connect·ed provider search. To find out more about the application process and Credential criteria read the Clinician Information Pack

As part of becoming credentialed, applicants are required to complete an introductory training in addition to their existing training in eating disorder management. The NEDC has recently launched Eating Disorder Core Skills: eLearning for Mental Health Professionals, a free, self-paced, and interactive online training that meets this requirement. The course is available to anyone, regardless of whether they intend to become credentialed, and counts for 5 hours of Category A CPD. Sign up for the free core skills course
