Counsellors and psychotherapists who have graduated from their course in the past 2 years can apply for our Provisional New Graduate category of membership. Provisional New Graduate members have all the benefits of provisional (early career) membership but receive a significant discount (25%) in the first year.
To be eligible for membership as a Provisional New Graduate, graduates must be assessed as meeting our Training Standards.
This includes graduates from all PACFA-accredited courses as well as those who have completed counselling/psychotherapy courses that include 40 hours placement, are studied over two years (full or part-time) and are not predominantly online.
PACFA is proud to support a diverse range of modalities and professional backgrounds to ensure a dynamic and highly skilled workforce is developed for the benefit of Australia’s mental health sector. All incoming members must have a relevant qualification at Bachelor degree level or above (AQF level 7 or above).
Key benefits of Provisional New Graduate membership
Provisional New Graduate members are listed on PACFA's popular Find a Therapist Directory, which attracts approximately 2500 hits per month.
Benefits of PACFA membership for student and Provisional New Graduate members also include free access to recordings of our high-quality webinar CPD, the Jobs Board and other employment opportunities through our partnerships with counselling and psychotherapy service providers and private health funds.
Students receive free professional indemnity insurance cover, while Provisional New Graduate members can access affordable insurance cover through our partner, Insurance House.
PACFA is the only counselling and psychotherapy peak body to have full membership of Allied Health Professions Australia. This strengthens our member advocacy and means our member counsellors and psychotherapists can use the title 'allied health professional'.
Remember, membership is free for counselling and psychotherapy students. Please note, our office will be closed from midday 21 December 2022 to 9 January 2023. We advise starting applications prior to the office closure, so staff can provide any support needed to complete the application.
