Somatic Psychotherapy

This workshop will define somatic psychotherapy and how it extends or differs from other psychotherapies and counselling modalities. It will experientially explore aspects of trauma such as safety, containment and streaming with somatic awareness. Case studies will be presented, supported by recent research to highlight the effectiveness of somatic psychotherapy for addressing trauma. There will be discussion and activities offered throughout the afternoon.

Sandra maintains a practice in Psychodynamic, Dance Movement Psychotherapy and clinical supervision in Canberra. Over thirty years of exploring body and movement therapies and clinical training in psychoanalytic Self-psychology inform her work, particularly with trauma and psychosomatic issues. Sandra is an invited presenter in Dance Movement Therapy and Psychodynamic theory in Australia, Canada, and China. She offers professional development workshops, sharing her movement and psychotherapeutic expertise with a variety of professional communities.
