Holistic assessment and formulation for young people and adults

DUE TO CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES WE ARE LOOKING AT AN ALTERNATIVE TO FACE TO FACE.

PLEASE CONTACT US FOR AN UPDATE

Presenter: Anthony Hillin

This practical workshop expands the biopsychosocial model to include additional domains of cultural, spiritual, historical, political and environmental factors to maximise the value of assessment and case formulation for both the client and clinician. This model shifts the emphasis away from the presence of symptoms of mental disorder to a comprehensive exploration of the lived experience of the client across these domains.

You will receive clinical tools and experience creative techniques to explore these areas of functioning that may be influencing the current expression of symptoms and the client’s readiness to change.

You will also develop skills in constructing a formulation with the client that will:

  1. help the client and their significant others to better understand their current life experience
  2. guide the intervention toward a positive outcome.

How you will benefit from attending this workshop

You will have opportunities to:

  • gain experience applying a holistic framework of assessment and formulation to your clients
  • gain experience in using techniques for exploring social, cultural, spiritual, environmental, historical or political aspects of your client’s presentation
  • practice developing overt formulations which are engaging, accessible and which maximise the therapeutic value of the assessment process. This includes giving your client and their significant others greater insight and understanding, evidence for hope of a positive outcome and a sense of the way forward.

This event counts as 6.5 hours of category A CPD for PACFA’s membership renewal requirements
