Helping Children and Parents Manage Separation and Divorce

Presenter: Karen Young

A divorce or separation is difficult enough, but when children are involved, it becomes all the more important to handle the process of separation in such a way as to minimise the consequences for the young lives involved.

This workshop will explore ways to support parents and children through the process of separation including how to handle the reactions of children, supporting parents to deal with conflict, how to support children in grieving for what has been and adjusting to a new normal, what children will need from their parents, how to co-parent to preserve relationships and strengthen children, how to strengthen each parent’s independent relationship with the children.

Presenter: In her work as a psychologist, Karen Young has worked extensively with children, teens and families. She is the founder of ‘Hey Sigmund’, an online resource that provides contemporary, research-driven information on children, teens and parenting. The website attracts millions of visitors each year.

She is the author of two books ‘Hey Warrior’ and ‘Hey Awesome, which creatively assist children to understand and manage anxiety. She is a sought-after speaker and consultant, both here in Australia and overseas.
