Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

This online course will run across six Fridays; 21st August, 28th August, 4th September, 11th September, 18th September and 2nd October 2020.

In this training workshop, Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, participants will develop a thorough theoretical understanding of cognitive behaviour therapy and the skills specific to this mode of therapy. Reference will be made to the work of Ellis and Beck. Teaching approaches will include lectures, modelling and a strong emphasis on skills practice in small groups with supervision.

This is a course suitable for the beginner and for those wishing to refresh their skills. A qualification in a health or ‘helping’ profession (e.g. counselling, social work, teaching) is the usual prerequisite, although holders of degrees (or students of) such as Bachelor of Psychological Science, Criminology or similar, will also be eligible to participate in our training. Provided that all requirements are met, the Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy will be awarded at the conclusion of the course.

The online Certificate in CBT is a rich and engaging digital experience over six days. Learn to identify activating events. beliefs and consequences, utilise disputational skills and use CBT with problems involving depression. anger and anxiety. Teaching approaches include lectures. modelling, and skills development in small groups.

There will be four morning lectures covering the topics of Introduction to CBT. CBT with Depression. CBT with Anxiety and CBT with Anger.
Between the lecture and the supervision session participants are required to practice and record a particular CBT skill with a buddy from their supervision group. This will also be done online.
The four supervision sessions will have a maximum of 6 in a group with a trainer There will be plenty of lime for questions and answers.
Detailed instructions will be given regarding how to use the online platform It will not be onerous.

Daily structure:  9am – 12.30pm lecturer input with time for Q and A | 12.30pm – 2pm Lunch Break | 2pm – 5 pm discussion and skills supervision | You will have a week in between session to skills practice and complete recordings with an assigned buddy from your small group afternoon supervision sessions.

This interactive and informative workshop also offers the following:

  • The text “CBT in Action· A Practitioner’s Tool Kit” will be mailed to the participants In plenty of time to enable the pre-reading.
  • Participants will be sent the set of teaching DVDs or USBs with the Small Screen Series showing Assoc Prof Monica O’Kelly and Dr Dom DiMattia demonstrating CBT with a depressed, an anxious and  angry client

There will also be a follow up fifth supervision session (Day 6 on 2nd October) to consolidate skills.

This event counts as 20 hours of category A CPD for PACFA’s membership renewal requirements
