Two workshops presented by returning International Guest

Alan Leach

Alan Leach returns to Australia to present two exciting, highly experiential workshops: one on the difficult and sensitive process of healing shame and another on techniques for the ‘here and now’ exploration of dreams in therapeutic practice.

Breaking through Shame

At the heart of shame is a fundamental need to protect ourselves and feel safe in the world. Shame can be experienced as a sense of personal ‘flawedness’ undermining the existential core of our psychological well being.

Working on shame is a ‘road less travelled’ as it often remains a hidden dynamic within the therapeutic encounter due to feelings of exposure and unworthiness within client and therapist.

This 2 day workshop will take a relational stance to understanding the phenomena of shame that will include:

  • working with different types of guilt
  • differentiating healthy and ‘toxic’ shame
  • embracing resistance within the client and the therapist through the process of healing shame

Developing Dream Work

This 1 day workshop on Dream Work is a great follow-up to Alan’s introductory workshop last year and an equally worthwhile workshop for newcomers to a ‘here and now’ approach to dream work.

With a primary focus on demonstrations, experiential exercises and on techniques that you can immediately apply to your work with clients, Developing Dream Work continues the learning path of how to interpret dreams from a phenomenological standpoint and work with them within a non-interpretative framework.  It will encompass:

  • Phenomenological investigation related to the practice of interpreting dreams
  • Facilitating a therapeutic ‘two chair’ encounter
  • Present centered techniques applied to ‘here & now’ exploring of dreams
