Bereavement Counselling – Core Course

Presenter: Dr Elizabeth Mann

This core course in Bereavement Counselling has been created for those who already have training and experience in general counselling. This course has a strong skills focus and provides a comprehensive overview of the personal characteristics and professional education and training that are needed to be an effective bereavement counsellor.

Counsellor self-awareness around the issues of life and death is given priority throughout this course. The impact of how a lack of personal engagement in these areas can affect the professional role is discussed. Role-plays and group reflection form a large component of this training. Courses in bereavement counselling are best not undertaken by people who have experienced the death of someone close to them in the previous twelve months. The courses are skills focused and do not provide therapy. It is strongly recommended that this core course be completed before any other courses in Bereavement Counselling or Group Work conducted by the Centre.

* This event counts up to 18 hours of category A CPD for PACFA ’s renewal membership requirements.
