An Introduction to Narrative Therapy

Presented by Loretta Pederson

This event will involve exploring some of the key assumptions of narrative therapy, sharing some practice stories of narrative therapy via therapeutic documents and video and a brief exercise that will offer participants a chance to explore narrative therapy ideas.

Loretta is a member of the Dulwich Centre faculty and teaches both nationally and internationally. She also works for a non-government organisation in a community facing significant disadvantage and in private practice through Narrative Therapy Connections Sydney. Loretta meets with people responding to a range of issues in their lives including relationship concerns, parenting issues, grief, and problematic drug use. Loretta is particularly passionate about assisting people where expressions of distress (including self-harm or suicidal thoughts) have arisen from witnessing or being subjected to violence, in reclaiming their lives from these effects. She enjoys her work very much, especially seeing the liberating effects of conversations deconstructing dominant ideas about ‘mental illness’ labels, gender, family, race and class.
