An Existential Lens on Supervision

Learning from other people’s live

2 x half-days offered online and nationwide

Presented by Professor Emmy van Deurzen live from the U.K. (hosted by Dr Alison Strasser)

This 1-day workshop (now offered online nationwide across 2 half-days) will be a combination of Emmy providing basic tuition on her method of Structural Existential Analysis as it applies to supervision, demonstrating her practice by working with workshop participants on their own clinical work. The 2 half-days will encompass experiential learning, discussion and debate with brief interludes of teaching-on-demand to facilitate deeper understanding of the approach.

Presenter: Professor Emmy van Deurzen

Professor Emmy van Deurzen developed a philosophical therapy based on existential-phenomenology. In addition to being a world-renowned author, existential therapist, and trainer, she has been a supervisor for over 40 years. In 2009 she co-edited a book with Sarah Young called Existential Perspectives on Supervision (Palgrave Macmillan) and currently supervises doctoral trainees working in the Dilemma Low Cost Clinic in London as well as in her private practice. Emmy has a direct, enquiring, collaborative style of supervising that is grounded in phenomenology and her own method of structural existential analysis. Her focus is on addressing both the therapist’s and the client’s concerns as well as the relationship between them.
