Coronavirus – Important information for PACFA members

PACFA has been monitoring the evolving situation in relation to the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). With the Coronavirus being declared by the World Health Organisation to be a pandemic on March 12th, the unfolding situation is expected to impact on PACFA and on our members.

We recognise that many people, including our members, their clients and families will be experiencing feelings of anxiety and worry in relation to the coronavirus (COVID-19). With that in mind, PACFA is taking a number of actions to support our members and the community during this time.

We have developed a Coronavirus flyer to assist members who are working in organisations or in private practice where there may be risks of contact with the Coronavirus.

As an organisation, PACFA is following the current advice and information provided by both Federal and State government authorities. The responsible federal government agency, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), recommends that public events should proceed, but with the strong recommendation that people who are unwell with cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms should not attend public events or gatherings.

Accordingly PACFA plans to go ahead with scheduled PACFA meetings and professional development events. However, individual participants in meetings and events should decide whether attendance is appropriate depending on their personal situation.

We have set up a Coronavirus Information Page on the PACFA website where you can find information and resources about PACFA’s response to the Coronavirus. The Coronavirus Information Page includes:

  • Key contacts for assistance or advice with the Coronavirus
  • Health advice
  • Advice regarding meetings and events
  • Travel Advice
  • Workplace and Business Continuity Resources

PACFA is also in the process of developing some practice resources for members who may be supporting clients whose mental health and wellbeing is affected by the development of this pandemic. We will inform members once we have these resources ready.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update the Coronavirus Information Page as further information comes to hand.

PACFA is here to support our members so if we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact the National Office at admin@pacfa.org.au.
