Policies and practice support

PACFA maintains the highest membership standards for counsellors and psychotherapists in Australia. As a self-regulating body for the profession, PACFA has developed policies and guidelines for members. PACFA also conducts and publishes research and workforce surveys.

There are two registration categories on PACFA's register: Certified Practising and Registered Clinical. PACFA's Registration Standard: Certified Practising, sets out PACFA’s requirements for the Certified Practising registration of counsellors, psychotherapists and Indigenous Healing Practitioners. The Registration Upgrade Standard: Registered Clinical, sets out PACFA's requirements for practitioners to upgrade from the Certified Practising category to Registered Clinical.

PACFA has developed numerous resources for counsellors and psychotherapists to support members in providing best-practice therapy.
