Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision: E-Learning Course

The Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision Course provides the opportunity for nursing, allied health and welfare professionals who currently provide or intend to provide clinical supervision, to further develop their competence in clinical supervision.

The course aims to increase confidence and skills in setting up supervision, developing learning goals and establishing a competency-based supervision contract. Topics cover how to effectively use feedback and evaluation in supervision and measure the supervision efficacy. Participants will develop a solid understanding of the tasks and responsibilities of supervision and become a competent and reflective supervisor. There are 7 self-paced study modules including videos, reflective learning tasks, practical examples, video demonstrations and online readings.

By the end of the course, participants will:

• Have a sound knowledge of the role of clinical supervision when working as a health or welfare professional
• Recognise the importance of supervision and the benefits for those who receive clinical supervision but also the benefits to clients
• Be aware of the different models of supervision
• Be introduced to the role of the initial supervisor meeting and defining the purpose of supervision with the supervisee
• Recognise the importance of a safe and supportive relationship that underpins a good supervisory experience
• Have knowledge of contract setting in supervision and determining supervisee-learning needs
• Be introduced to various techniques of best practice supervision as well as reflective practice
• Understand the value of effective feedback and evaluation

Have knowledge of how to set up and manage effective remotely delivered supervision for individuals and groups using Telehealth.

Presenter

Christine Senediak BA.(Hons), M.Psychol (Clin), M.Family Therapy is Principal Director of Clinical Supervision Services and Sydney Family Therapy Training Institute and has over 35 years of experience working as a clinical psychologist, educator and supervisor. She has a strong interest in evidence-based practice and systems theory and integrates this in her work as therapist, educator and supervisor. She supervises widely providing individual, peer, group and organisational supervision to psychiatrists, psychologists and other health clinicians working in child, adolescent and family services, schools, adult mental health, drug health, gambling, sexual assault, cross cultural and trauma services. Christine has trained as a systemic family therapist, which influences her approach to clinical supervision where the wider context is considered in understanding the development and maintenance of problems in clinical presentations. She employs a reflective practice approach to supervision enhancing self-awareness of relational issues between therapist, client and systems. Christine incorporates elements of systemic, cognitive behavioural, mindfulness and person-centred therapies in supervision and training.
