On Conflict and Resolution: an existential-phenomenological perspective

Online via zoom

Presenter: Karen Weixel-Dixon, PhD

Conflict always felt like a deeply personal event to Karen: it was grounded in the threat of loss and submission. Conflict appeared in every context: political, professional, familial, social. She felt compelled to explore the source of this ubiquitous phenomenon. In this conversation Karen will discuss with Alison the essence and effects of inter-personal conflict. Is it a necessary process? Are there positive consequences that may compensate for the uncomfortable feelings that attend the occasion? What is it that most of us find so debilitating and threatening in this kind of encounter? Karen will posit that how we engage in conflict and our attitudes to the possibilities inherent in the encounter, reveal a great deal about our worldview, with reference to our expectations of ourselves, and of others.
