This unit introduces students to classical and current psychological and theological research related to counselling and counselling practice. In doing so, the unit enables and encourages students to reflect on and articulate ways in which Christian principles and clinical practice may be integrated in order to provide sensitive and comprehensive care to persons within Christian and other spiritually-oriented counselling environments.
Major positions pertaining to the integration of knowledge across disciplines will also be identified and classified according to their degree of acceptance of the proposition that truth is unified. For each position, philosophical bases and contributions to dialogue concerning integration will be explored and evaluated. Concurrently, students will be encouraged to consider and articulate their own bases for the integration of their faith and practice.
Dates: 14, 21, 28 August; 4, 25 September; 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 October; 6, 13, 20 November
