PACJA Edition Five published

Edition 5 of PACJA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia), PACFA’s online research journal, has been published at the PACJA website.

PACJA is an international, open-source, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing original papers of quality. The journal offers immediate access to practice, theory, and research articles, and is a valuable resource for practitioners, researchers, educators and students.

In her editorial, PACJA’s Editor, Dr. Jillian Lynch draws attention to current discourse on the research-practice ‘gap’ in the field of counselling and psychotherapy. She also provides a comprehensive synopsis of each article published in this edition, which cover a broad range of topics including: how a particular speaking practice used by counsellors and psychotherapists can negatively affect collaborative communication; the use of Motivational Interviewing as an adjunct in school counselling; how certain concepts related to The Circle of Security (COS) intervention could be used in adult psychotherapy; the application of Heinz Kohut’s Self Psychology principles and concepts in a public acute inpatient mental health unit.

This issue of PACJA includes two literature reviews: The PACFA-commissioned Literature Review of the Evidence for the Effectiveness of Experiential Psychotherapies is a systematic review, and establishes beyond doubt the effectiveness of experiential psychotherapies for a range of psychological conditions. Intimate Relationships and Chronic Illness: A literature review for counsellors and couple therapists provides an overview of the literature the authors reviewed for a three-phase study into chronic illness and relationships.

In addition to articles and literature reviews, the journal has an excellent selection of book reviews.
