PACFA Sections

Counselling and psychotherapy is a diverse field with many different approaches practised.  PACFA encourages dialogue between professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists as this is vital for the ongoing development and accountability of professional standards and conduct.

To support this professional dialogue, PACFA is made up of different Sections which incorporate  Member Associations representing practitioners with similar backgrounds and approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.  Member Associations are encouraged to join one of more PACFA Sections.

The formation of Sections also provides a framework which allows the public and other professionals to make choices among different types of practitioners. PACFA Registrants can be identified on the Register according to the Section or Sections to which their Members Association belongs.

Members of the community seeking therapy may find the sections useful to find out more about the different types of therapy. Members of PACFA Member Associations practice in accordance with the approach of the section or sections to which the association belongs.

PACFA, in collaboration with our Member Associations, has developed the following nine Sections, which represent groupings of therapy modalities.
