Individual PACFA Membership

 

Membership Category Definition
Clinical Member Practitioners and Educators who have completed the training required by PACFA’s Training Standards and meet the supervised practice requirements to be a Clinical Member
Clinical Members are Full (voting) members of PACFA
Provisional Member Practitioners and Educators who have completed the training required by PACFA’s Training Standards and meet the supervised practice requirements to be a Provisional Member
Clinical Members are Full (voting) members of PACFA
Intern Member Practitioners and Educators who have completed the training required by PACFA’s Training Standards  and are working towards completing the supervised practice requirements to be a Provisional Member
Student Member Students undertaking training in Counselling or Psychotherapy
Affiliate Member Non-practising membership category for others who wish to be Affiliated with PACFA

Eligibility

To be eligible for Individual PACFA membership, Applicants must meet the requirements for the category for which they are applying.

Intern Member
To apply for membership as an Intern, applicants must demonstrate that they have completed training that meets the PACFA Professional Standards and that they have completed at least 40 client hours linked to 10 hours of supervision during their training. Applicants must be insured and must make declarations regarding their previous ethical conduct. Applicants must agree to abide by the PACFA Code of Ethics and the PACFA Constitution.

PACFA Interns are still working towards completing the supervised client contact hours required to meet the PACFA Professional Training Standards and to achieve Provisional Membership.

Provisional Member
To apply to be a Provisional Member, applicants must demonstrate that they have completed training that meets the PACFA Professional Standards and that they have completed at least 200 client hours linked to 50 hours of supervision. The supervised client hours may include the supervised client hours completed during their training. Applicants must be insured and must make declarations regarding their previous ethical conduct. Applicants must agree to abide by the PACFA Code of Ethics and the PACFA Constitution.

Provisional Members are still working towards completing the supervised client contact hours required for Clinical Membership of PACFA.

Clinical Member
To apply for membership as a Clinical Member, applicants must meet the requirements to be a Provisional Member above and must have completed a further 750 hours of client contact linked to minimum of 75 hours of supervision over a minimum of two years. Applicants must be insured and must make declarations regarding their previous ethical conduct. Applicants must agree to abide by the PACFA Code of Ethics and the PACFA Constitution.

Student Member
Student Membership is open to all students who are currently enrolled in a Counselling or Psychotherapy training program.

Student Members of PACFA are not practising professionally as counsellors or psychotherapists and only see clients in the context of their training program.

Students receive free insurance under PACFA’s Master Policy for any client work undertaken within their training programs.

Affiliate Member
Affiliate Membership is a non-practising membership category for people who are not practising as counsellors or psychotherapists and not working as counselling or psychotherapy educators.
