NSW Institute of Family Psychotherapy

The Institute was established in 1998. The origins of the Institute date back to early 1980's when Charles Enfield established supervision groups in object relations family therapy. Tavistock trained, Dr Enfield was trained and supervised himself by psychotherapy luminaries including Anna Freud, John Bowlby and others.

The Institute moved a further step forward in its development with the establishment of the Sydney Centre for Family Therapy in 1993 with Dr Charles Enfiled as its director and a small business principal therapists.

During with period a small number of family psychotherapists were trained by Dr Enfield and numerous families have been expertly assessed and treated successfully with the object relations approach to family therapy, an approach which is embedded in the traditions of psychoanalysis and analytic psychotherapy.
