The Benefits of a Horizontal (sibling) Perspective in Psychotherapy and Counselling
Presented by Dr Servaas van Beenkum

In this workshop, van Beekum presents an overview into the vertical paradigm, central to Freud’s theoretical framework. He gives insight in the reasons why it has become the dominant perspective before moving to the emerging insights in the horizontal (sibling) perspective and the reasons why it has recently gained traction. The presentation also highlights an exercise and practical work for the professionally interested in applying these new insights.

Servaas has a life long experience as an (analytic) psychotherapist and organisational consultant. He has written about 40 book chapters and articles in international professional journals and was awarded with the 2015 Eric Berne Memorial Award for his work on integrating the concept of the unconscious. Servaas has been active on international boards for transactional analysis, group relations and supervision, in Europe, the US and Australia. Born the fifth child in a family of nine, has made him experimentally savvy on the issue of siblings.
